According to the legend the name Didim comes from the word "twin" -- it refers to the twin God and Goddess Apollo and Artemis who where supposedly born in Didim. With its golden sandy beaches and tranquility it blends together with the modern world very well.
The mythical monument of the Temple of Apollo is just 3 kilom away from Altinkum and has so much to see. The temple was called "Didymanion" in ancient times, the Greek traveler Pausanias who traveled during 160 A.D recorded that the temple was constructed before the Greek colonization took place.
The belief is that it dates back to the 8th century B.C. Apollo temple and Artemis were connected together with a road which is known as the "sacred way", flagstones are found to confirm this.
Altinkum, Didim is a beach resort, slowly gaining popularity. The word "Altinkum" means "golden sands". Altinkum is located between Kusadasi and Bodrum and is on the north of the Bodrum peninsula, it has 3 large beaches and they all slope gently into the sea, making it safe for children to have hours of fun.
