The "St. Tropez" of Turkey
BODRUM
Flower splendour & meeting place for artists

In the southwestern part of the Aegaeis, in a bay surrounded by palms, lies the small town BODRUM, in ancient history well-known as "Halikarnassos".
The landmark of the city is an old fortress (which belonged to the legendary "Knights of St. John of Jerusalem" -- also called "Hospitaller"), which rises from the sea on a small peninsula (see pic 1).
Bodrum is well known for many things - among these are the characteristic snow-white houses and the cheerful atmosphere. That´s why Bodrum is usually called the St. Tropez of Turkey.

Being internationally famous as artist meeting place, Bodrum really has a very special "aura". In the small marina dozens of sailing boats swing "cheek to cheek" in the gentle waves.
Blue sky, evergreen flora, radiating colors in glistening sunlight, as well as warm-brown sounded wood balconies with a sumptuously flowering splendour of geraniums, Bougainvilleen and hibiscus -- Bodrum is literally a celebration for the senses.

Although BODRUM is one of the most attractive places for international tourists and of course yachting aficionados during the long summer period, there´s more to it, and also in winter time: although it can sometimes get "cold" here (monthly average in winter: 15 degree Celsius), Bodrum has become an all-season goal for many.

If you travelled to Bodrum in wintertime, you might easily come to think"who would want to come here these days, there´s nothing going on here !". But - you should know that all lovers of Bodrum are here!

Many came already years ago and established themselves here all-the-year. To them Bodrum has become their real and also "spiritual" homeland, regardless if it´s summer or winter.
Even if they (it´s a quite uncommon phenomenon) might witness some snowfall now and then, they actually don´t care about it -- because they feel "at home".

There is much to discover in Bodrum: joy of life, fun and pleasure, the pleasant (very low air humidity !) heat of the summer, a rich historical heritage, the sea and the adjacent tiny, but extremeley charming villages -- all this and much more has turned Bodrum and the whole area into one of the most popular places at the turkish coast.

Those who are interested in history and archaeology, can spend their lifetime finding many objects of interest, and because this heritage is presented with pride, historical accuracy and "love", it´s worthwile visiting places like the castle, the ancient amphitheater, the grave of the hittite King "Mausolos" (remember "mausoleum" ?) and the old windmills up on the hills.

Between beginning of november and end of march the airport BODRUM is (at least currently...) not approached by international airlines. Alternatively you can approach IZMIR (Airport "Adnan Menderes"), from there it takes a circa 3 hour's drive to Bodrum.

GUMUSLUK
Idyllic fishing village

About 15 km to the west of Bodrum you´ll find a very charming and popular village GUMUSLUK, which is in fact the historical MYNDOS.
Many tiny seafood restaurants, located directly at the sea, will offer you delicious "sea fruits". The sunsets on this side of the peninsula are simply breath-taking.

GUNDOGAN
Pictorial fishing village

The full green of the lemon trees is a characteristical part of this pictorial place. GUNDOGAN is located 10 km to the west of Bodrum and provides a very pretty sand beach and also seafood restaurants located directly at the sea.

YALIKAVAK
A coast made by the divine Creator

Travelling to this appealing sea village (approx. 10 km distant from Bodrum, from our houses in Gumusluk circa 5 km) provides a fantastic view on the impressive coastal landscape of the peninsula.

YALIKAVAK is an outstanding place and a famous international meeting point for yachtsmen: In the year 2003 a new large yachting port has been opened here.
While talking about "yachting port", we should not forget to mention that 2002 another yachting port has been opened near the village TURGUTREIS !
